Child Play Therapy in Fort Langley, BC. Verity Therapy.

Hello, and welcome—I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Sydney, and I’m a child and youth therapist at Verity Therapy, offering professional counselling services to families in Fort Langley, BC, and the surrounding Fraser Valley.

I specialize in child and youth counselling using a developmentally informed, relationship-based approach. I thoughtfully integrate play-based therapy to meet children and youth where they are emotionally and developmentally.

I believe child play therapy in Fort Langley is a powerful way for young people to express themselves, process experiences, and support healthy emotional growth. Creating safe, creative, and supportive therapeutic spaces where children can explore emotions, build resilience, and strengthen their sense of self is at the heart of my counselling work.

What is Child Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based counselling approach used by trained therapists to support children’s mental health. Rather than relying solely on verbal communication, play therapy uses toys, games, art, movement, and imagination as therapeutic tools for expression. Through play, children can communicate conscious and unconscious thoughts, emotions, and needs in ways that feel safe, natural, and accessible.

Play is how children understand and engage with the world around them. Play-based counselling supports emotional regulation, self-expression, problem-solving skills, social connection, and self-esteem. When guided intentionally by a child therapist, in Fort Langley, play becomes a powerful therapeutic language—one that can support emotional well-being for children, youth, and even adults.

When is Play Therapy Used?

Play therapy can be beneficial for children of all ages and developmental stages, regardless of the challenges they may be facing. It is especially helpful for children who have difficulty verbalizing emotions, managing big feelings, or navigating peer and family relationships. Play therapy is also highly supportive for neurodiverse children, as it honours each child’s individual pace, interests, strengths, and sensory needs.

Sessions are flexible and responsive, creating a safe counselling environment where children can explore their inner world without pressure or expectation. At its core, play therapy recognizes that humans are meant to play. Through play, we build relationships, explore our environment, and develop self-awareness.

In my counselling practice, play therapy is child-led, inquiry-based, and thoughtfully tailored to each child’s unique needs and abilities.

What Does Child Play Therapy in Fort Langley Look Like?

Play therapy sessions can take many forms, all of which can be equally effective in supporting children’s mental health. In my practice, child counselling sessions often incorporate creative and expressive modalities such as art therapy, sand tray exploration, puppets, imaginative play, and story-based interventions.

These approaches offer children multiple ways to communicate and express themselves, making therapy developmentally responsive, empowering, and emotionally attuned.

Meeting the child where they are is essential. I join children in play, observe how they interact with materials and their environment, and gently support opportunities for emotional regulation and social connection. The therapeutic relationship is built through attunement, curiosity, and trust, while counselling goals are intentionally woven into the play process.

Why Play Therapy Matters?

While play therapy may appear like “just play,” it is a highly effective and research-supported form of child counselling. Play therapy allows children to feel engaged, safe, and motivated—often making therapy something they genuinely enjoy.

By offering professional play therapy services in Fort Langley and the Fraser Valley, we can support children’s emotional well-being in ways that honour their voices, respect their developmental needs, and empower them to grow with confidence and resilience.
