Meet Talia

Talia provides individual coaching/counselling, co-parenting coaching/counselling, family counselling, discussion moderation, family mediation, and child-inclusive mediation services. Her practice is trauma-aware, self-compassionate, child-centered, culturally humble and neuro-affirming. She prioritizes creating equitable space for clients to feel heard and supported in their journey. Clients often note that Talia is soft-spoken, warm, insightful, and gets things done.

She has a diverse range of certifications and expertise. She is a Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator, Certified Family Relations Mediator, Child-Inclusive Mediator, Certified Clinical Trauma Practitioner, individual coach/counsellor, co-parent coach/counsellor, Certified Coercive Control Trauma-Informed Clinician, Certified Child Inclusive Mediation and Counselling Consultant, Certified Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician, ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider, Dual Certified Child and Family Trauma Professional, and Certified New Ways for Families Coach.

Talia's career began nearly two decades ago at assault services. Over the years she has been fortunate to have led teams that supported vulnerable individuals facing issues like family violence, intimate partner violence, mental illness, substance misuse, homelessness, and more. Over the years, she has worked locally, regionally, and internationally to improve support for those in crisis. She holds memberships with Associate Roster MediateBC, the Hear the Child Society, the BC Society for Children and Youth, the American Bar (non-attorney), American Psychology Association, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, High Conflict Institute, Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada amongst others. She is an organizing committee (board) member for the BC Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and leads AFCC-BC's Trauma-Aware Practices Project and the Empowering the Voices and Best Interests of Children Project. She was also part of the task force that developed the AFCC-BC Parenting Plan Guide for family services professionals, members of the bar, members of the bench and the general public in British Columbia.

With a blend of lived experience, education and professional training, she has worked extensively with individuals affected by intimate partner and family violence, those accused or convicted of harm, children navigating co-parenting conflict, and families in heightened dispute. She also supports neurodivergent people and parents with support strategies to navigate a world that isn't built for them. Her practice spaces are naturally sensory considerate but should you have additional needs, she will accommodate what is necessary to feel comfortable working with her.

She has received training from a broad range of well-respected institutions, organizations, universities, and professionals including but not limited to Family Mediation Canada, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Somatic Experiencing International, the Canadian Police Knowledge Network, the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children, Children Beyond Dispute, Harvard Law School, Stanford University, the Institute of Child Psychology, the Crisis and Trauma Research Institute of Canada, the High Conflict Institute, University of Toronto, the Justice Institute of British Columbia, University of Salford’s Master of Psychology programme with a specialization in coercive control, Provincial Association of Transition Houses & Services in Saskatchewan (a province with the highest rates of reported family violence in Canada), and Research and Education for Solutions to Violence and Abuse (RESOLVE).

At the moment Talia is expanding her skillset, and working towards her certification as a Compassionate Inquiry Practitioner (3 years) and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (3 years).
